Event technicians are needed to perform a variety of "backstage" tasks in support of Harford Community College's events and conferencing. Responsibilities include hands-on construction, painting, hanging, focusing, and running lights, setting up and running audio, building and painting props, and hanging fly system items for theatrical, musical, and dance performances. Technicians provide technical support for lectures, ceremonies, and conferences; and perform duties as assigned by the technical director for preparation of shows, performances, and strikes.
Work is generally performed on the college campus unless otherwise specified. Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States, as the college does not offer visa sponsorship for this position. Your application to this position will remain active until December 31 of the current year. If you are not selected by that time, you must reapply to be considered. If you apply on or after November 1 of the current year, your application will remain active until December 31 of the following calendar year.
Required education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Required experience: Will train entry level.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: All applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs without assistance. Candidates must pass a practical skill examination. Hours will vary according to event requirements with a combination of day, evening, and weekend hours. Reliable transportation is required.
Preferred qualifications: One to three years experience in the technical aspects of theater production, including the operation and maintenance of rigging, sets, lighting, and sound systems preferred.
The work schedule will vary according to show requirements; day, evening, and weekend hours available. The hours of part-time, as-needed employees are limited to a total of less than 500 hours in each fiscal year (July 1 June 30).
