This position offers health, vacation, and retirement benefits. Apply today! Responsibilities Ability to operate power tools and equipment normally associated with landscaping and maintenance. Ability to withstand extensive standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, digging, and ability to lift at least 50 lbs. Ability to work in all types of outside weather conditions, including excessive heat, excessive cold, excessive noise, dust, smoke, and slippery or uneven surfaces. Analytical and trouble shooting skills; ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long term goals. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills; basic computer skills; customer service skills. A valid Utah driver's license is required. Responsible for landscaping and installation of a specific area of the University to provide an esthetically pleasing and safe environment, and accomplished in accordance with university and department policies and procedures. Regular gardening and landscaping maintenance such as fertilizing, mowing, edging, laying sod, pruning, litter pickup, weeding, snow removal, tree planting, and watering to conserve healthy and vigorous plants. Control weeds and pests using principles of integrated pest management (IPM) Must operate different models of tools such as hand pruners, loppers, push and ride lawn mowers, leaf blowers, dump trucks, and utility carts. Work expediently, efficiently, and interdependently, with limited direction from Lead Horticulturalist. Perform snow removal in winter months utilizing shovels, blowers, and plows. Knowledge of common names of trees, shrubs, flowers, weeds and insects pests. Employees are required to be available for on call snow removal during winter months. Minimum Qualifications Nine months professional work experience with the responsibility for five or more acres of grounds, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); a valid Utah vehicle operator's license required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Selected applicant will be expected to obtain a pesticide applicator's license. Preferences Would prefer (but not required) experience with grounds maintenance, including knowledge of different plants and their requirements: watering, pruning, weeding, fertilizing, mowing, etc. Special Instructions Requisition Number: PRN42870B Full Time or Part Time?
