Job Description

A contract position is available for a Sign Language Interpreter to support two 4th-grade students in an elementary school setting. This role focuses on facilitating communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, including one student with a cochlear implant. The position is based in Rapid River, MI, with school hours from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM during the current school year (CSY).

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, and peers using American Sign Language (ASL).
• Provide interpretation services tailored to the individual needs of two 4th-grade students.
• Support the inclusion of deaf or hard-of-hearing students in classroom activities.
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure accessibility and comprehension.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpretation skills.
• Experience interpreting in educational environments, preferably with elementary-aged children.
• Familiarity with cochlear implants and understanding of communication strategies related to their use.
• Ability to work full school days from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to supporting students academic and social development through effective communication.
