2302 Militia Dr. Jefferson City, MO Why you will love this position: The Missouri State Emergency Management Agency has responsibility for coordinating disaster response and recovery operations across Missouri - responding to everything from tornadoes and flooding to ice storms to the coronavirus pandemic. SEMA operates the State Emergency Operations Center and provides training and grants to strengthen Missouri's resilience against natural disasters.

This position will manage the radiation detection instrument program for Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, ensuring all radiation detection instruments are tested, tracked, and distributed to risk counties surrounding Callaway Energy Center, Missouri and Cooper Nuclear Station in Nebraska. The position will travel Missouri counties testing equipment used to detect radiation and conduct routine maintenance of all equipment and will serve as part of the Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP) team assisting with plan development, training and participating in required drills.
Responsibilities - What you'll do Duties and Responsibilities: - Manage an instrument program of over 2,500 instruments located in eight (8) counties in Missouri.
- Tracking, maintaining, testing, exchanging, and sending radiation detection instruments to a vendor for calibration.
- Receiving radiological transportation advance notifications, maintaining records, and providing notifications to State agencies, as required.
- Follow procedures both in a field environment as well as in a laboratory to process over 700 direct reading dosimeters.
- Maintain emergency plans within the Radiological Emergency Program.
- This position is required to participate in drills and exercises in preparation for emergencies. Exercise participation is mandatory for this position which often requires overnight travel.
- Develop the annual instrument program budget.
- Maintain program specific records in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Participate in general SEMA, DPS, or State programs, operations, initiatives or projects as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
On the job training will be provided for skills that are unique to this position.
Qualifications - All you need for success Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - The ability to lift boxes of various dimensions up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Attention to detail, strong organizational skills and the ability to work with diverse partners
- Proficient with: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook; and Adobe Acrobat
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Complete tasks with minimal supervision
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator's license.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays when required to respond to disaster/emergency situations.
Typical Qualifications : Bachelor's degree or four years or more of relevant experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
