Verizon is seeking a Senior Manager, State and Local affairs for New York and Connecticut. Collaborate and coordinate with Verizon's lines of business to implement the company's legislative strategy, community engagement tactics, and supporting content. This effort focuses on achieving company goals in New York (specifically the Upstate and Midstate regions) and Connecticut. Interacting with and strengthening relationships with members of municipal and state administrative and legislative bodies. Representing Verizon with third party advocates to influence local policy makers at the municipal and state government levels to advance policy agenda. Accountable for strengthening Verizon's political impact and community engagement by leveraging extensive network and government experience. Supporting Verizon state regulatory team to influence decisions in key initiatives. High level of expertise in advocacy/issues management, community organizing, and coalition-building. Knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes at the municipal and state level. Serving as primary strategic liaison to company affiliations, special business, third party groups, grassroots local influencers and thought leaders. Providing team direction on communicating key messages and strategic initiatives to stakeholders. Planning and developing strategic messaging on key business priorities. Representing Verizon in a variety of forums including providing testimony at legislative hearings and community meetings that address issues impacting Verizon. Compiling competitive intelligence. What we're looking for... You'll need to have: Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training. Experience in the development, management and advocacy of telecommunications, broadband, cable TV and utilities policies and positions. Demonstrated skills in negotiating issues in support of corporate goals and objectives. Experience working with all levels of management. Willingness to travel within territory in personally owned vehicle. Ability to work both during normal business hours, as well as evenings and weekends should the circumstances require availability. Even better if you have one or more of the following: Law degree or experience in legal matters. Public policy, community engagement, advocacy experience on behalf of a technology, communications, cable TV or public utilities business/industry. Broad knowledge of Verizon operations and business functions or extensive positioning already established in territory. Strong leadership skills. Self-starter and evidence of intellectual curiosity. Strong verbal and written communications skills. Ability to navigate ambiguity and changing priorities. Highest level of personal integrity.
